Chapter 3
Chapter 3: The Men and the Boy
“Stay Back”! I get hit with the back end of a pistol, “Bret”! I yell as her mother pushes her into the car “Stay back Andrew.” Bret’s Mother yells, telling police officers to grab me.
“That boy is hurt” my father yells from the ambulance, “And my son release him…NOW” I run over towards my father and get a glimpse of Buddy laying in the back. The doors slam and they speed of followed by the police. I feel the blood running off my head as I hear Vicy crying out “Buddy…Buddy come back to me” Tears in her eyes, “Andy do something, he is your best friend.”
“I put you all in needless danger” I start walking towards my Dad’s truck, “I am nobody’s friend.” I get in and look out the front window and see Vicy crying, shaking her fist; yelling about how useless I always was. Her Mother comes from behind the truck yelling “I told you can do what ever you want, you just have to let me know” They hug and fall down “I told you everything to keep you safe not to see you get hurt looking for answers.” Told her what? I open the door a crake and Mr. Grass slams it shut “We are going to get my boi” My dad hops in the driver's seat and starts the engine, “I will tell you on the way…”
“Dad where are we going?” I ask.
“To save Buddy” We ride out of the forest and head east past the school and houses. We turn down Stolas Bouvard. And head west towards Riverside general. “We are going the wrong way Dad.”
“No, we are not, they took him…”
“But….” I interject.
“They took my boi where the…” My dad yells Mr. Grass’s name, shutting him up, “What he needs to know Frank” My father nods and looks over towards me as we stop at a red light, “We have…” Mr. Grass starts.
“We have been seeing each other and are planning on…” I look over and my dad is locked in on the road, “We were going to tell you after…”
“I mean about Buddy and the thing at the lake,” I look back at Mr. Grass and smile “I am happy for you both but right now let’s focus on my brother and saving him” The car is quite for an awhile. The streetlights fly by as we ride down the road. The car lights fly by as I look outside. My Dad and Mr. grass talk as I zone out. The light stop. I peer into the darkness; a red glow comes in, and Sean’s face appears “I told Buddy not to go to the lake” I try to say something, but he covers my mouth, “Those Doctors are going to kill him not because he is from the west side; you four are the next heroes of our town. The thing underneath is telling them what to do.”
“Sean” I managing to get out.
“Vicy didn’t get hurt, she didn’t bleed on the shore, You are safe as long as she didn’t bleed on the shore; I can’t contact Buddy right now, he is being monitored by HIM. Tell your dad “The prince lives”” Sean says disappearing into the dark. I open my eyes to the sound of ambulances and emery lights “The prince Lives” I say look over at the pair. They nod and get out.
We walk into the ER and it’s a little busy; the doctors running around; babies crying, normal ER things. We walk up to the desk, and the lady is on the phone “Yes the boy is in room 669,…no, his farther isn’t here, we need…yes the others didn’t come they were unharmed of course…” She turns and stares right at us, turning red, “Hello Mr. Glass, Mr. Reed and young Andy how may we…I help you.”
“I need to see my son now” Mr. Glass yells hitting the desk leaving a little dent where his hand was.
“Sir, please calm down may I have his name?” She asks as her eyes glazes over, “It’s not Buddy is it”?
I hold him back and says Buddy’s dead name, her eyes go back to normal and she smiles. She tells us his room, and we head to the elevator. We get in and the door closes “How did you know that would work.?” My dad asks.
“In the forest when Bret and I went onto the trail to find clues we heard a voice calling to us saying Andrew and Brittny we thought nothing of it because others call us those names.” I look down at a pink hair tie around my wrist, “Bret gave this to me before we went off on aur own and told me it would protect me…” I look over at the men in the elevator then the door dings and we get out and run down the hall towards room 669.
Mr. Glass busts in the door and sees Buddy laying peacefully in the bed, “That’s my boy,” he starts to tear up “he can sleep though anything.”
“George we have to go,” My dad says pulling a wheelchair from the hallway “Put him in quicky.” We pick him up and place him in the wheelchair and head out into the hallway. We cover his head with a blanket so we can get out without being spotted. Other patients look at us was we go down the hallway, everything seems normal, even doctors aren’t bothered. We turn down the corridor leading to the elevator. Seuratiy and police officers block the way. Each one armed to the nines; guns, riot shields and tasers.
“We can’t go this way” I say pulling the two men back, “we have to find a different way.”
“There is no other way” Dad says looking again.
“There is always another way” I chuckle “how do you think we snuck out so mush.”
“I wish you four was sneaking you to…” I dad covers Mr. Glass’s mouth and nods at me. We turn around and head down the hallway. I take out a mirror and hold it out around the corner and see two guards facing a small elevator that says exit to parking lot, “Bingo” I whisper as I take a small
