Dear Men
Dear Men,
When did you stop?
Stop protecting what is good?
When did the female body
become yours? I do not remember when I said
I am wearing this for you.
When did I say I want this? Is it
when I bought this shirt, these pants? Was
it when I smiled, when I laughed? Or maybe
when I walked alone? When I walked into a bar?
When did you learn that a no is a yes? Why am I
someone who has hurt a man being held accountable,
While for you it’s “boys will be boys”? If
he did what I did, no one would bat an eye, “He,
is just shy” you would say “Aww, give him a chance”
At first we hugged and cuddled,
now I am the one in the wrong,
For wanting more? He talks about me
and it’s cute. I ask about him, I am obsessed. What
kind of double standard is that?
You can get hurt;
I know that. Because of what is in
My pants I don’t have the benefit of
A doubt.
I never overstepped physically,
I waited of him;
I asked, and I am wrong
I stand with the sisters, the mothers,
The daughters, the siblings.
To those who say “It’s
Not All Men” I know, but they
ALL need to be held accountable.
I am Jane Doe
