 Prologue The crash

For days now Father has told me That I am wrong and that I am a male…which I am not. I just turned nineteen and I need to get out of here. I heard that there are places where trees grow and there are other animals, not just phoenixes. It’s the last day of school and I Plan on leaving after graduation.

“Flame I can’t believe you are leaving right after you get your diploma, what about your…” My friend says.

“I don’t care about him…mom’s gone anyway and If she wasn’t I wouldn't care either.” I fly to class and don’t look back. “Flame” I sharply snap

“Flame…here is your diploma leave and…be safe Your father… go here” He hands me a map leading to a place far away where I will be safe. I grab my bag from my locker and fly away without looking back. The trip will take days, and I only brought a week's worth of food with me. Something catches my eyes, and I land to see what it is… “Trees” I say looking into the trees canopy “It’s better than the pictures. The grass at my feet starts to burn and I hear yelling “Leave menace terror from the sky.” I turn around to see a…well I never met another animal before, so I wave, and they keep yelling “Leave…leave flaming beast.”

“I am not a beast” I chirp and fly away. That was weird I think. Place after place I get the same welcome and feeling I’m not wanted. I find a place to rest and it's a patch of dirt. I look up into the sky and make a wish on a star like a little kid. “Star…I wish I can find a new home fast.” The next day I get up feeling bad “My wings are dirty” I shake off the dirt and flame up. Lifting up into the air; I check my map and see I am halfway there, only one day's journey left I…can’t wait. I am going to fly straight, no rest, no stopping. I will make it by dinner time. I fly throw a rain cloud, but It wouldn’t stop me then…dark.

Meanwhile Feather

      My first day as a teacher starts tomorrow, I don’t see anything that can go wrong “A shooting star” I chirp “I wish that I Find the ‘one’ this year” I get in my PJs and go to bed. “Mx. Feather, Mx. Feather” I hear a little voice of one of my students “Hurry wake you”. I jump out of bed to see what happened.

“Squerlbert, is something the matter”?

“Someone crashed and they are hurt.” I fly down the stairs and find someone surrounded by dead and fried grass “Squerlbert go get you mom” He runs inside as I try to help this person. I clean off their wings and sit them up resting on my shoulder. Dr. Cipmunck runs out with a first aid kit and helps the one who fell out of the sky. I get up and try to calm down the crowd that has formed. “Mx. Feather is he okay” Buck asks, holding back their friend. “Who…the one who crashed?”

“Squirrel-Bert you okay my dude” Doug yells to his friend. Dr. Chipmunk yells “he needs to go to the ER”. Doug and Buck start to freak out thinking that it's Squirrel-Bert that is hurt.

“Boys calm down please, Squirrel-Bert is okay”. After taking Doug and Buck home I meet Squirrel-Bert and his mother’s at the ER. I see the police checking his bag for ID. Walking past I see Ms. Charlet and walk up to her, “Oh my are they in…”

“Surgery thankfully no, They are talking at least,” Squirrel-Bert runs down the hall and hugs his mom, “Squirt I told you no running in the hospital”. I leave them to their congestion and head to the room where the one who fell out of the sky is.

Back with Flame

I walk up in an all-white room with a doctor looking at a clipboard “Is…this…where I can stay”?

She chuckles and says, “Not in the ER but our town yes”. A calm washes over me as I see a really happy kid at the foot of the bed; He gasps and runs away. That was weird. I am told that I am dehydrated for a bird and too hot for a phoenix. I make a joke, but she says she has a girlfriend. Meet-cute failed.

“That kid you saw my son, he found you in our yard…” The doctor says, checking my blood pressure.

“I am so sorry did I…” I look down at my casing “...I BROKE MY WING!”

“Yes you did and if you are worried about the grass don’t be the grass will come back” I calm down and thank her for that. Then someone knocks on the door “Dr. Cipmunck May I come in”?

“Yes…” I say meekly. As this person walks in I feel hot in my cheeks but not like when I flame up. This person’s hair dances in the wind as they walk with eyes like diamonds and feathers That look like clouds “I am Flame, I am Agender, Asexual and biromantic…hi” I just blurt this out and regret after words.

The feathered goddess whose name I want to know replies with a chuckle “I am Feather Cis-Female and pansexual pronouns she/they”. The doctor asks to see her outside and I sit up farther. The way she cares for others and didn’t ask more questions about my gender…I want to marry her no…no control yourself. After a while Some police came in and started asking me questions. Simple questions at first; my Full name gender and pronouns, my perfed prefix too.

“Okay Mr. Flame Where are you from…?” The officer says.

“The fire Mountains north from here” I replied.

“Do you need a ride back sir.?”

“No, I never want to go back there” I yell.

“Okay just watch your flames and have a nice day;” They start to leave “Oh and…healthcare is free here enjoy your day”. I think I died and went to heaven. pretty doctors and doctors friends who are prettier and weird kids like how I was. This is too good to be true.
